Chapter one walks the reader through the day I suddenly went from carefree, childless and self-employed to sole caregiver for my mother Paula. Her first stroke resulted in right-side paralysis and aphasia. She went from healthy and active to completely disabled within hours. There was no looking back after this sudden shift in both our lives.
